After using them this long the reason I haven't felt the need to upgrade is because of one thing- the sound quality. The Chinese company that builds these must have put all their r&d into the speakers or outsourced the units because these things should not sound as good as they do at this price point. I once thought I had broken the mic on these things (I hadn't) and decided to buy a razer kraken for $60. I immediately returned them because they somehow had subpar audio quality to these, even with razer's audio drivers installed. Normally I browse the web at around volume level 20, which is perfectly sufficient. If I really want to blast music I bump it up to 50. The headset (in my experience) has no problems with it, despite other reviews saying these are quiet. The bass on these things is quite honestly ridiculous. You do have to turn it up a little bit to really "feel" it but these things are BUMPIN. There is no static in the line, no crackling. It's very smooth.
The only other headphones I use are my gen 2 airpods with my iPhone, and I can say with confidence that this headset has comparable audio. Not kidding. There are some slight sound differences, mainly the airpods being "louder" with slightly better bass but one was built in 2014 at cost of probably $10, and my airpods came out in 2019 at $150.
The mic is good enough to get the job done. I've got flamed plenty of times for having a "walmart" mic but since then I've bought an antlion aux mic. Also they are certainly durable like others have mentioned before.
After this long things just wear out on it. The padding on the ear covers eventually flakes off, the padding on the headband gets cracked and ripped, the Y cable junction has tears and I've wrapped I up with duct tape. Sometimes I need to twist the line in on my PC to make sure audio comes out of each side evenly and stop crackling. Once it's in position though it works fine. But lets be honest, most people would've thrown these out long before those problems became an inconvenience.
All in all, I would certainly recommend these to someone who waned a risk free entry as their first gaming headset. I use these daily, they've really stood the test of time. I know that I'll be using these till the speakers completely quit.
Speakers:
Quality is decent, not too much bass but definitely not cheap sounding
They do press on the ears quite hard initially, but after a few weeks of continued used it stretches out a bit. I think it took about 8 weeks before I stopped experiencing pain wearing it for more than an hour. I didn't, but I suppose they could be intentionally stretched. If you don't plan on wearing the headset too much, I'd definitely try to stretch it out gently. The plastic isn't cheap, but it's certainly breakable.
Microphone:
Quality is decent. Does have a small degree of ambient static, but the quality of voice it picks up more than makes up for it.
It's conveniently angled away from the mouth, so eating with the headset isn't an issue.
Also due to the conveniently located microphone, coughing or laughing isn't going to cause any air friction with the mic. So if you're talking to people through it, you don't have to worry about adjusting the microphone constantly, I've never had any issues with people complaining that it's too close or picking up too much air.
It can be left down all the time, you won't have to constantly bring it up and down like some headsets. I'd imagine this extends the lifetime of the headset, because there's less wear on the wires with less mic adjustment. My last headset broke because the wires became stripped from adjusting the mic.
Design:
Long cord is super convenient. I can walk all the way to my door or to the wall heater with the headset on.
The box and directions are written in poor English, which gave quite an unprofessional feel.
Looks decent.
Made of cheapish plastic, but feels sturdy. Microphone extension piece feels solid.
Computer recognized it easily, didn't require any configuration.
To sum it up:
Pros:
Cost effective, good quality speakers/mic for price, long cord, conveniently placed microphone, feels sturdy, standard set up
Cons:
Pain at first; needs to be stretched/worn, small amount of ambient static
My previous headset was a Logitech G930, a fairly expensive and luxurious headset. After a little while it broke down, and I decided to get some new ones. I decided upon these for their looks and price.
First impressions:
These arrived in a large amount of bubble wrap with no instructions. There doesn't seem to be any drivers necessary, so the headset appears to be just plug and play.
Sound Quality: Very good. Nothing too special, but it's not horrendous either. Definitely not the quality of my old G930's, but the quality is alright.
Build Quality: EVERYTHING in this seems to be made of plastic. I'm not sure how durable, and I'm not sure I want to find out. At the very least, it does seem mildly flexible. Ear cups are kind of jiggly in their place.
Mic Quality: Haven't had a chance to test this out yet. The mic is only able to move up and down, and is not flexible like a G930's. More of a personal preference and doesn't seem to affect anything.
The headset itself is VERY tiny. As a person with an (apparently) large head and glasses, this headset isn't going to be pleasant to wear unless I can get some larger foam pads for the ear cups that actually go over my ears. Taking off my glasses seems to help, but I'm blind and the headset still doesn't feel great.
Overall, the headset is kind of meh. Not bad for a quick 15 bucks, but with the time it took to get here (almost a full month) and the feel of it, it's almost underwhelming.
Top reviews from other countries
Now before I get into the review, let me tell you the main difference between this and other headsets. First of all, for games, at ~1K, this is a bang for the buck. I also listen to music and watch shows on it sometimes and tbh, it performs quite well.
Gaming headsets are specifically tailored for games (duh), so in-game is where it performs the best. Have been playing Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and a few other games, and it doesnt disappoint.
PROS:
> Clear sound
> Near perfect sound levels (atleast for a casual music listener)
> Mic picks up sounds very well
> Comfortable fitting (fits perfectly over my ears; and yes I have large ears)
> Volume control helps a lot; comes with an on-off switch
CONS:
> Mic picks up sounds from (too) far away (~5-10m) so if your mates are making a ruckus in the room, chances are your gamming buddies will have a listen in; hasn't caused me any problem yet.
If you are willing to spend a moderate amount of money, yet want a semi-Kraken or semi-Siberia performance, this in my opinion, is your best bet (currently). I suggest if you purchase, after that try tinkering with some settings from the Sound manager and in-game audio managers, to suit your taste. This has quite a lot of potential, but some work needs to be done to bring t that out.
P.S. - This has a native 3.5mm 2 pin connector style (mic + headphone), so I suggest you get a 2-to-1 pin converter (just in case)
The sound quality is very good. I have a large head (7 and a half hat size) and the fit is comfortable. The earphones are well padded and do a decent job of blocking environmental sounds. The microphone seems to work just fine (people on the other end hear me loud and clear) and it folds up out of the way, into a slot, when not in use. The microphone can only be swung down into a left-handed position as shown in the picture.
My only criticism is that the volume control unit on the cord is a bit bulky and heavy. It doesn't pull the headphones but you know it's there and it can be a bit of a nuisance. A clip would have been nice so it doesn't swing about if you move.
Construction feels sturdy and rugged with thick plastic and padding.
